In October/November the 4th project meeting was held in Missoula. A group of 6 researchers and administrators visited UMT for one week. The defined topic for the meeting was “Indigenous Rights, politics and the understanding of self-determination” During the visit, the Norwegian group was taken on excursions to two reservations within the state of Montana, the Rocky Boy’s Reservation where the Chippewa Cree live, and the Flathead Indian Reservation , which is the home of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai tribes of Montana. Open seminars and project meetings were organised with
representatives of different groups in both reservations.
At UMT, representatives from Tromsø gave guest lectures, participated in project presentations and attended meetings on administrative level. A one-day workshop was organised with invited speakers from institutions cooperating with the UMT on related issues. The workshop had the title “Indigenous Peoples’ Sovereignity: Global and Local Perspectives”.
