AIM III – Studies of gene-environmental interactions
The effect of genotype on cancer risk and disease outcome can be studied using the candidate gene approach (studying candidate genes by selected single nucleotide peptides, SNPs). Through the collaboration in EPIC we intend to participate or initiate studies in the common biobank and databank on gene-environment studies based on SNPs. A major funding for these projects are through the Consortium of cohorts funded by NCI. Examples of studies are “Folate, 1-Carbon Nutrients, gene variants and Colon Cancer” and “Fatty acids synthesis gene variants and breast cancer risk”.
