Our study site is an established snow manipulation experimental site in Adventdalen, Svalbard.
Here we use snow fences to trap snow and simulate deeper winter snow conditions.
Then we can find out how the plants behind the snow fences respond to deeper winter snow cover.
Does the deeper snow cover provide extra insulation for the plants to keep them warmer and promote growth?
Deeper winter snow takes longer to melt in spring, so does this leave less time for plants to grow during summer?
