Use of satellite data for landscape-scale analysis of snowmelt timing, growing season lengths and plant growth
This project aims to look at the bigger picture and determine responses changes in snowmelt timing at the landscape-scale. Satellite imagery from different sources can be used to obtain information on NDVI, temperature during the growing season and the length of the snow-free period. Here we will combine data from different sources to reveal the relationship between NDVI, growing season temperatures and the snow-free period to be better able to predict the responses of terrestrial plants to climatic change in the Arctic.
This work will be conducted in collaboration with NINA (Norwegian Institute for Nature Research) and the findings will feed into the Arctic Biomass Network.
