Memorial Lectures

Every year Academia Borealis arranges two memorial lectures:

The Harang Lecture is named for the outstanding Northern light researcher Leiv Marius Harang (1902-1970) who did pioneering work on the polar ionosphere; he was also was the first head of the Northern Light Observatory in Tromsø when it was established in 1928.

The Qvigstad Lecture commemorates the well-known scholar Just Knud Qvigstad (1853-1957) who was the director of Tromsø Musum for many years and later Rector of the Teacher College; Qvigstad is rightly remembered for his ground-breaking studies of Sami language and culture.
