The summer schools is sponsored by Bergen forskningsstiftelse and Tromsø forskningsstiftelse.
Tromsø is a city with 70.000 inhabitants and above the polar circle. The easiest way to come to Tromsø is by plane. You might find direct flights from Helsinki (Finnair), Stockholm (SAS), Copenhagen (SAS), Frankfurt (Lufthansa), Alicante (Norwegian), London (Norwegian), Gdansk (Wizzair), but most of the flights to Tromsø come from Oslo (SAS and Norwegian).
The weather in Tromsø in September can vary from sunny to stormy, and the temperatures vary between -5° C to 15° C, with an average round 5° C. We encourage you to check the forecast before you pack your luggage.
All the lectures will take place at the main campus of the university. There is eduroam on campus, and we will also make sure that there will be a guest network. There will be served coffee/tea as well as fruit during the breaks. We will also serve lunch and dinner.
We have prebooked 30 beds in twin rooms at Hotel Amalie in the city center. These will be attributed to 30 of you based on the application you send to the organizers. If your application is granted, you will have the possibility to upgrade to single room by paying the 300 NOK directly to the hotel. If your application is not granted, you have to book your accommodation yourself, but there are many hotels in the city centre and also AirBNB is option.
We plan to hike to the mountains around Tromsø on Wednesday (good shoes will be required) and we will have dinner in a restaurant above the city, which can be also reached by a cable car.
