Jeanette Hammer Andersen is a professor in marine bioprospecting and head of the natural products platform Marbio at UiT. Marbio has experience in screening extract library of natural product origin of both terrestrial and marine organisms, and has successfully identified several novel bioactive compounds. Jeanette took her PhD at the department of Microbiology at the University Hospital of North Norway, working with inhibition of Herpesviruses infection using natural proteins/peptides. In Marbio, her work has focused on establishing an automated assay platform for antioxidant, antibacterial, diabetes, immunomodulating and anticancer screening. Current research interest is discovery of novel bioactive compounds from the marine environment. If you want to have a chat with her, you can stop by at Marbio in the science park or at the ice rink, when Tromsø hockey women’s team are playing.
