John Sigurd Svendsen

John Sigurd Mjøen Svendsen is a professor of organic chemistry at the Department of Chemistry, UiT, the Arctic University of Norway. Dr. Svendsen has extensive research experience in medical biochemistry, synthetic organic chemistry and medicinal chemistry, specializing in antibacterial peptides. Dr. Svendsen received his PhD from the University of Tromsø, and has been visiting scientist at several distinguished international institutions, including in the laboratory of Professor K.B. Sharpless (Nobel Laureate, Chemistry, 200) at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.  Dr. Svendsen has always been intrigued about impacting society with his research and has co-founded several companies working with cancer treatment, antimicrobial technology and diseases linked to Down syndrome. John S is the Project Leader of the DigiBiotics consortium and PI of WP2 – Synthetic molecules.
