Marianne Hagensen Paulsen

Marianne is commonly found wearing her white lab coat and safety glasses in her lab where she is part of a team trying to combat antimicrobal resistance. The passion for developing new antimicrobial compounds has followed her for years, starting with synthesizing metallo-b-lactamase-inhibitors during her Masters in Organic Chemistry, before taking a PhD in medicinal chemistry titled “Synthetic mimics of antimicrobial peptides”. Both degrees from the University of Tromsø where she currently works as a researcher/post doc. Marianne comes from Bardu, a town in Northern Norway situated in the deep valleys among the vast mountains far from the coast. When she is not working she is commonly found frolicking on a mountain or knitting sweaters to ensure that her friends and family stays warm in the arctic winter.
