{"id":559,"date":"2018-06-25T12:03:57","date_gmt":"2018-06-25T10:03:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/site.uit.no\/arcticsize\/?p=559"},"modified":"2018-08-04T13:10:12","modified_gmt":"2018-08-04T11:10:12","slug":"outreach-2018-future-international-research-cooperation-in-the-arctic-ocean","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/site.uit.no\/arcticsize\/2018\/06\/25\/outreach-2018-future-international-research-cooperation-in-the-arctic-ocean\/","title":{"rendered":"OUTREACH 2018: Future International Research Cooperation in the Arctic Ocean"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">With rector Anne Husebekk at the helm, an expert team from UiT The Arctic University of Norway, and The University Center in Svalbard, Arctic SIZE scientist Paul Wassmann acted as the chief scientist at this year\u2019s Outreach Cruise.\u00a0 Invited participants included high-ranking marine research organization experts from the USA, Canada, Germany, Denmark\/Greenland, the EU, and Norway that came togehter to discuss how international research could be organized proceeding the Arctic Council&#8217;s Agreement on Enhancing International Arctic Scientific Cooperation.\u00a0 The expert team visited Longyearbyen, Barentsburg, Pyramiden, Ny \u00c5lsesund and Smeerenburg and also made an excursion to the ice edge and associated marginal ice zone.\u00a0 All visits included guiding on local history and science by the leader team.\u00a0 New projects were considered and discussions were organized regarding the second Arctic Ministerial that will take place in late October in Berlin.\u00a0 And, last but not least, the role of UiT The Arctic University of Norway in accelerating marine research in the Arctic Ocean by inviting international experts and participating in international research projects was discussed and developed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-560\" src=\"https:\/\/site.uit.no\/arcticsize\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/251\/2018\/06\/Deltakere_Smeerenburg_1973-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/site.uit.no\/arcticsize\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/251\/2018\/06\/Deltakere_Smeerenburg_1973-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/site.uit.no\/arcticsize\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/251\/2018\/06\/Deltakere_Smeerenburg_1973-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/site.uit.no\/arcticsize\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/251\/2018\/06\/Deltakere_Smeerenburg_1973-1024x683.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<iframe src=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/like.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fsite.uit.no%2Farcticsize%2F2018%2F06%2F25%2Foutreach-2018-future-international-research-cooperation-in-the-arctic-ocean%2F&amp;layout=standard&amp;show_faces=true&amp;width=450&amp;action=like&amp;colorscheme=light&amp;height=80\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" style=\"border:none;
