She will specifically look into the incorporation of sea ice algae and their growth.\u00a0The key question is what makes\u00a0sea ice algae successful in their\u00a0extreme habitat.\u00a0Emma will combine lab experiments with artificial sea ice production with field work on Ramfjorden, where she investigates algal communities in sea ice during formation.
