The book offers both inspiration and understanding through personal narratives from twenty-seven social work researchers, students, and practitioners across five continents. These stories provide a rich exploration of diverse environments, communities, and systems. Each narrative serves as a powerful testament to the profound intersections of relationships, emotions, and lived experiences, capturing moments of genuine human significance.

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row column_structure=»3_5,2_5″ _builder_version=»4.27.4″ _module_preset=»default» global_colors_info=»{}» theme_builder_area=»post_content»][et_pb_column type=»3_5″ _builder_version=»4.27.4″ _module_preset=»default» global_colors_info=»{}» theme_builder_area=»post_content»][et_pb_text _builder_version=»4.27.4″ _module_preset=»default» text_font=»|300|||||||» text_font_size=»18px» text_line_height=»2em» text_orientation=»justified» global_colors_info=»{}» theme_builder_area=»post_content»]

Professor Tony Ghaye served as the book’s lead editor and, alongside Rita, guided the team of contributors throughout the writing process. In his presentation, Tony emphasized that storytelling lies at the very heart of social work. «Social work is about people, and people are stories,» he explained. «It is through stories that we understand what challenges us, what strengthens us, and what connects us. Stories are the foundation for creating change.»

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=»2_5″ _builder_version=»4.27.4″ _module_preset=»default» global_colors_info=»{}» theme_builder_area=»post_content»][et_pb_image src=»https://site.uit.no/arcticyouth/wp-content/uploads/sites/525/2025/11/1000036950-scaled.jpg» title_text=»1000036950″ _builder_version=»4.27.4″ _module_preset=»default» max_width=»75%» hover_enabled=»0″ global_colors_info=»{}» theme_builder_area=»post_content» sticky_enabled=»0″][/et_pb_image][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row column_structure=»2_5,3_5″ _builder_version=»4.27.4″ _module_preset=»default» global_colors_info=»{}» theme_builder_area=»post_content»][et_pb_column type=»2_5″ _builder_version=»4.27.4″ _module_preset=»default» global_colors_info=»{}» theme_builder_area=»post_content»][et_pb_image src=»https://site.uit.no/arcticyouth/wp-content/uploads/sites/525/2025/11/1000036953-scaled.jpg» title_text=»1000036953″ _builder_version=»4.27.4″ _module_preset=»default» max_width=»80%» hover_enabled=»0″ global_colors_info=»{}» theme_builder_area=»post_content» sticky_enabled=»0″][/et_pb_image][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=»3_5″ _builder_version=»4.27.4″ _module_preset=»default» global_colors_info=»{}» theme_builder_area=»post_content»][et_pb_text _builder_version=»4.27.4″ _module_preset=»default» text_font=»|300|||||||» text_font_size=»18px» text_line_height=»2em» text_orientation=»justified» global_colors_info=»{}» theme_builder_area=»post_content»]

Mónica Ayala-Mira contributed a chapter about her work in a Mexican migrant shelter, where 25 Mexican and Central American women, along with their children, had sought refuge after being displaced by criminal and gender-based violence.
