I work as a sociology professor at the Department of Social Sciences, UiT The Arctic University of Norway.

My main research interests are within the sociology of education and the sociology of youth. A common denominator in my research has been an interest in social and spatial inequalities. This has lead me to investigate different systems, such as education and the labour market, and different variables, such as social background, gender, ethnicity and place, as well as the intersections between these, in order to reveal how inequalities are produced and reproduced.

As for methodological approaches I have worked extensively with mixed methods approaches, and I have conducted qualitative interview studies in combination with cross-sectional and longitudinal statistical analyses of survey and register data. I have also conducted comparative studies in a number of different countries; Finland, Sweden, Russia, Canada.
