Thursday 14th of February was the first lunch seminar in a series of 3- 4 seminars each semester that will be pulled of in a collaboration between the PhD forum at IBV, UiO and BioStruct. At Polybait we know it is only a question of time before traditional bait becomes obsolete within commercial fisheries. There is something fundamentally wrong about using seafood to catch seafood. Because of this we have undertaken the task of developing artificial baits that would greatly increase the sustainability and profitability within commercial fishing. Others have attempted to do so in the past, but so far no one has managed to achieve what needs to be considered to ultimate goal of artificial bait development; to completely replace the use of traditional baits. Being pioneers within the field poses many challenges for us related to competence and experience within biotechnology and fisheries research, and most importantly – bringing these two disciplines together to achieve our goals.
