Quantification of hydrocarbons in sediment and the water column.
A ThermoScientific Trace 1310 gas cromatograph, equipped with both an FID and a PDD detector, is used for quantification of methane and larger hydrocarbons, by headspace sampling in water and sediment. This helps us to understand the fate of methane bubbles in the water column, originating from flares on the ocean floor. CAGE has one of these on-site for our own use.
