The researchers at CAGE have access to an Avaatech XRF core scanner, used to measure the element composition of a variety of geological samples.
The Avaatech XRF core scanner is mainly used to measure the element composition of marine and lacustrine sediment cores from high northern latitudes to:
- Reconstruct palaeo-oceanographic changes in the Nordic Seas and around Svalbard
- Reconstruct palaeo-climatic variations on Svalbard, in Scandinavia and on Iceland
- Identify source areas of deep-sea turbidites in the Nordic Seas
- Investigate sedimentary processes and slope stability of glaciated continental margin
This equipment is owned by the Department of Geology at UiT The Arctic University of Norway.
