{"id":179,"date":"2013-09-05T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2013-09-04T22:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/site.uit.no\/cage\/2013\/09\/05\/a-unique-opportunity\/"},"modified":"2023-04-04T10:37:17","modified_gmt":"2023-04-04T08:37:17","slug":"a-unique-opportunity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/site.uit.no\/cage\/2013\/09\/05\/a-unique-opportunity\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2013 A unique opportunity"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>Joel Johnson looks forward to spending a year as visiting professor at CAGE.<\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/site.uit.no\/cage\/wp-content\/uploads\/Joel_Johnson.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-92\" title=\"Joel Johnson\" alt=\"Joel Johnson\" src=\"https:\/\/site.uit.no\/cage\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Joel_2-200x300.jpg\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><a title=\"Joel Johnson\" href=\"https:\/\/site.uit.no\/cage\/research-team\/joel-johnson\/\">Joel<\/a> (pictured right) is an associate professor of geology at the University of New Hampshire (UNH) in the US, and is spending the next year on sabbatical leave in Troms\u00f8.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I received the advertisement for positions at CAGE I was immediately motivated to inquire about a possible sabbatical position,\u201d Joel says.<\/p>\n<h2>Long experience with gas hydrate research<\/h2>\n<p>Joel\u2019s research expertise is within marine geology and geophysics, and he has been studying continental margin turbidite and gas hydrate systems since 1999.<\/p>\n<p>He has plenty of experience from drilling and research expeditions, and has also developed a course on shipboard sedimentology for the IODP, which was taught for the first time last year.<\/p>\n<h2>\u2013 Impressive research group<\/h2>\n<p>At CAGE Joel will work across two research groups: \u2018Sub seabed: The role of ice ages for fluid flow and methane hydrate\u2019 and \u2018Paleo-methane history through the Neogene-Pleistocene\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>He is looking forward to continue this research in Troms\u00f8, and describes his colleagues at UiT as an impressive research group with broad experience.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wish to capitalize on the opportunity to discuss gas hydrate science with a large hydrate specific research group\u201d, he says, and adds: \u201cThis is a very unique and wonderful opportunity to make significant advancements in our field.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Associate professor Joel Johnson from the University of New Hampshire (UNH) looks forward to spending a year as visiting professor at CAGE.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":123546,"featured_media":180,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[9,13,12],"tags":[10,16,15,14],"class_list":["post-179","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","category-paleo-methane-history","category-sub-seabed-reservoirs","tag-our-researchers","tag-paleo-methane-history","tag-sub-seabed","tag-visiting-researchers"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.6 -
