The Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research<\/a> (BCCR) in Bergen is to receive 50-60 million NOK from the European Research Council (ERC).<\/h4>\n

The centre\u2019s application for the project \u2018Ice2Ice\u2019 was one of 13 that were accepted<\/a> after a fierce competition with 450 other applicants from all over Europe.<\/p>\n

The University of Bergen<\/a> and Uni Research<\/a> is now granted eleven million NOK per year over the next five years to conduct basic research on melting ice in the Arctic. The main question the paleoclimate researchers will ask is: What will happen to the Greenland Ice Sheet if the Arctic sea ice covers disappear?<\/p>\n
