Next conference will be held in 2016 and\u00a0organised\u00a0by CAGE in Troms\u00f8<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Text: Maja Sojtaric<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">The 12th International conference on Gas in Marine Sediments (GIMS12) was held in Taipei, Taiwan this September.<br \/>\nThis interdisciplinary conference intends to bring together scientists from a range of disciplines\u00a0to address current research on methane in the marine and lake\u00a0environments.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">The conference in Taipei was attended by PhD students Sandra Hurter and Kamila Sztybor. They won an award each for their efforts.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1975\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1975\" style=\"width: 1000px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/site.uit.no\/cage\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/gims_kamilla_sandra.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1975 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/site.uit.no\/cage\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/gims_kamilla_sandra.jpg\" alt=\"Kamila Sztybor and Sandra Hurter with their diplomas. Photo: Maja Sojtaric<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">Hurter won the Best Student Poster Award for &#8220;Time-Lapse Seismic Study of Active Gas Seepage at The Arctic Vestnesa Ridge, Southern Fram Strait&#8221;.<br \/>\nShe described the acquisition of high-resolution P-Cable seismic datasets and the processing method that she developed, and presented preliminary results of the 4D analysis of the temporal evolution of gas hydrate and fluid flow systems at the Vestnesa Ridge.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">Sztybor won the second place in\u00a0Best Student Oral Award competition with &#8220;Methane release from the seabed and reliability of the paleo-record&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>She presented data and results from a suite of cores collected at the Vestnesa Ridge, within and outside one of the active pockmarks, and discussed the challenges in reading the paleo-record from methane-influenced environment.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The next GIMS Conference will be organised in Troms\u00f8 in September 2016, as voted by this year participants during the General Assembly held on the last day of the conference.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This years conference on gas in marine sediments (GIMS12) in Taiwan was successful for two &hellip; <\/p>\n<p class=\"read-more-link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/site.uit.no\/cage\/2014\/10\/02\/cage-elected-to-host-international-conference\/\">Read more<span class=\"screen-reader-text\"> \u00abCAGE elected to host international conference\u00bb<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":123546,"featured_media":319,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[9,150],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-317","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","category-past-cage-events"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.6 -
