Annual out-of-town meeting

The CHOCO group is annually going out of town for a two day group meeting with focus on team building and career development. This year we went fishing, followed by a session on grant writing. Indeed, both were challenging! We caught only 1 fish, which was shared at our international dinner, where each group member brought a dish. The group members then learned about funding schemes, reviewer comments and had to judge 5 real grant applications. The excellent comments showed that these students will make great grant writers!

NordForsk meeting in CPH

On August 28th, CHOCO PI Kathrin and admin Yngve were in Copenhagen to present our NordCO2 consortium to NordForsk, who is funding our research.

During our visit to Denmark, it was interesting to see the Danish focus on being CO2-neutral.

EuCOMC 2019

Annette, Kathrin, Ljiljana, Aya and Diego are at EuCOMC 2019 in Helsinki (June 16-20, https://www.helsinki.fi/en/conferences/eucomc-xxiii), enjoying amazing talks on organometallic CO2 activation. Kathrin will give her plenary lecture on Thursday at 9:00.

NordCO₂ Annual Report

The CHOCO group is leading the Nordic Consortium for CO₂ Conversion (NordCO₂), a Nordic University Hub financed by NordForsk and the 9 participating Universities. NordCO₂ has just released its first annual report, which is for the year 2018. Read it at: NordCO2_AnnualReport2018

Welcome Ainara

The CHOCO team welcomes Dr. Ainara Nova (UiO) as an Assoc. Prof-II (20% position) in the CHOCO group. Ainara will work together with us on computational catalysis and give courses, for example about microkinetic modelling. She will also increase the number of female PIs in computational chemistry at the department by 100%. 🙂

Oil-free Chemicals!!

The CHOCO group has obtained funding from the Arctic Centre for Sustainable Energy for starting research on biomass (which we will couple with CO2 to make oil-free chemicals).

We will characterize different types of biomass for this purpose, together with our new collaborator Prof. Kirsten Krause at BFE.
