{"id":3841,"date":"2025-11-17T08:26:27","date_gmt":"2025-11-17T07:26:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/site.uit.no\/dataverseno\/?page_id=3841"},"modified":"2026-01-21T14:34:37","modified_gmt":"2026-01-21T13:34:37","slug":"double-blind-peer-review","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/site.uit.no\/dataverseno\/admin-en\/curatorguide\/double-blind-peer-review\/","title":{"rendered":"Double-blind peer review"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n<p>If a dataset draft is to be included in a <strong>double-blind peer review<\/strong>, i.e. both author and reviewers are anonymous, then the researcher cannot share the dataset as with an editor, because the name of the depositor appears in the version control (see <em>Version<\/em> tab). In such cases, the curator creates an anonymized version of the dataset draft according to the guidance below.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The curator curates the dataset as usual, but without publishing it.<\/li>\n<li>Once the dataset is ready for sharing, the curator must create a new, identical, but anonymized dataset in a collection which is dedicated to datasets that are part of double-blind review.<\/li>\n<li>To get access to this collection, send an email to\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:support@dataverse.no\">support@dataverse.no<\/a>and ask for the username and password for the DataverseNO Review Curator.<\/li>\n<li>Log into dataverse.no as Review Curator. You have to be logged out as \u201cnormal\u201d curator, or open a new window in your web browser in incognito mode. Select the log-in alternative\u00a0<em>Other Options \u2013 Username\/Email<\/em>, and log in.<\/li>\n<li>Navigate to this collection:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dataverse.no\/dataverse\/review\">https:\/\/dataverse.no\/dataverse\/review<\/a>(Note! The collection is\/must not be published.)<\/li>\n<li>Create the anonymized dataset (see more information below), don\u2019t publish it, but create a Preview URL\u00a0(see\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/site.uit.no\/dataverseno\/admin-en\/curatorguide\/#reading-access-to-unpublished-dataset\">Reading access to unpublished dataset<\/a>). When finished, log out as Review Curator.<\/li>\n<li>How to anonymize the dataset:\n<ul>\n<li>Make sure that all information about the author is removed by either removing identifying information or adding \u201cAnon.\u201d into the metadata fields that need to be anonymized: <em>Author<\/em>(<em>Name<\/em>),\u00a0<em>Contact<\/em>\u00a0(<em>Name<\/em>\u00a0etc.),\u00a0<em>Producer<\/em>\u00a0(<em>Name<\/em>\u00a0etc.) and possible other fields containing author-identifying information. In the default metadata template in the Review collection, \u201cAnon.\u201d is already added to these fields.<\/li>\n<li>Also make sure that the author name and other identifying information is replaced with \u201cAnon.\u201d in the ReadMe file.<\/li>\n<li>In addition, identifying file metadata must be removed from all files. See\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/office\/remove-hidden-data-and-personal-information-by-inspecting-documents-presentations-or-workbooks-356b7b5d-77af-44fe-a07f-9aa4d085966f\">this guidance<\/a>on how to remove this kind of information from Microsoft Office documents. For any questions, contact DataverseNO.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>It is this\u00a0<strong>new<\/strong>, anonymized dataset that the researcher\u00a0<strong>can share<\/strong>with the editor, usually via a Preview URL\u00a0(see\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/site.uit.no\/dataverseno\/admin-en\/curatorguide\/#reading-access-to-unpublished-dataset\">Reading access to unpublished dataset<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li><strong>But note!<\/strong>Once the article is accepted, it will be the\u00a0<strong>original<\/strong>\u00a0dataset created by the author which will be\u00a0<strong>published<\/strong>, and the curator will then delete the anonymized version of the dataset. Therefore, it is crucial that the author right from the beginning uses an anonymized\u00a0<strong>reference<\/strong>\u00a0(incl.
