International Forum on Active Learning Classrooms (day 2)

Today was the last day of the International Forum on Active Learning Classrooms.

The session I attended today that was most useful for me was about how to support faculty in their use of ALCs. FutureLab-Mellomveien is actively used by the student employees, faculty, and students. Our ALC in Harstad has been having trouble getting teachers to use the space. We just had to give up FutureLab-Teorifagbygget for a year because it wasn’t getting used enough. What this tells me is that I need to step up my efforts to get people involved at all levels: administrative staff, faculty at different departments, and upper management.

So the question is, how do I get more people involved and how do I support faculty who want to use the spaces? From the session today it sounds like just in time training is what faculty want. They also want tech support, especially in early stages. They also want follow up. Noted. I’ll see what I can do.

Together with two of my colleagues from Rum för lärande, we held a presentation about the network. Our presentation is available online (MacLaren et al…).

Thanks to the University of Minnesota for hosting the conference and to Rum för lärande for arranging the pre-conference for the network.
