Members of the Indigenous Citizenship and Education project from the Arctic University of Norway (UiT) are traveling to Australia October 20-November 1, 2019 to meet with their partners from New Zealand and Australia to get project updates, attend a conference and participate in writing workshops.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Project Team in Australia<\/p><\/div>\n

 <\/p>\n

On October 20, five members of the Indigenous Citizenship and Education project from the Arctic University of Norway (UiT) began their two-week visit to Australia to meet with their project partners from Australia and New Zealand. They first arrived in Canberra for a project update meeting at the National Centre for Indigenous Studies, after which participants will have had the opportunity to have a guided tour of the National Museum of Australia.<\/p>\n

1. Canberra is the capital city of Australia and the largest inland city with a population of approximately 410, 200. It is home to the most prestigious universities in the country, including the Australian National University.<\/em><\/p><\/div>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The following day the project members will participate in an Indigenous Citizenship and Education roundtable discussion at the Australian National University (ANU). That evening they will have a formal dinner with the Norwegian Ambassador and the Deputy Head of Mission. October 23-25, there will be an Indigenous Studies HDR Conference hosted by the National Centre for Indigenous Studies at the Yarramundi Cultural Centre, formerly known as the Burringiri Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Centre.<\/p>\n

2. The Yarramundi Cultural Centre was originally the National Museum of Australia but was changed into the Burringiri Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Centre in 2000.<\/em><\/p><\/div>\n

 <\/p>\n

Over the weekend, the group from Norway will travel to ANU\u2019s Kioloa campus on the Southern coast of New South Wales. There the project partners will have the opportunity to visit the beach before beginning an intensive final week of writing workshops, project paper presentations and writing sessions.<\/p>\n

3. Kioloa is a small town in New South Wales with a population of about 257. Kioloa is known as ANU\u2019s coastal campus and is popular with tourists for its beaches, making it a nice coastal retreat.<\/em><\/p><\/div>\n

 <\/p>\n

To learn more about their trip to Australia and how it went afterwards, look for another article that will be published the beginning of November after the project members have returned to Troms\u00f8.<\/p>\n
