She sometimes considers herself an historical ecologist and to that end has worked to develop proxy data bearing on Holocene-era climate and marine ecosystem change in arctic North America. In addition to biogeochemical studies of archaeofauna, she is also interested in the use of historic ship\u2019s logs as a source of information on past climate, weather, sea ice, and marine species biogeography.
