Project VYBINO

Why do many of us find with food and body image, whilst others never give it a second thought?

What role does our own body image play in how sensitive we are to the physical sensations in our bodies?

What’s it like to be in your body, and how does it relate to what you see in the mirror?

These questions inspired researchers at UiT – The Arctic University of Norway and Northumbria University to come together to create the research Project VYBINOViewing Your Body from the Inside and Out.

As the name implies, we research the relationships between:

  • How we feel about our own body
  • How we see our body in the mirror
  • Our mood and wellbeing
  • How well we notice and listen to the signals our bodies send us (our interoceptive awareness or “inner sense”)

In other words, we investigate how you view yourself from the inside (how you feel about your body + inner sense + mental health) and out (How you see yourself in the mirror). This is because we want to better understand body image in those of us with and without body image issues and eating disorders.

This is why we are excited to invite Norwegian-speaking women over the age of 16 to participate in our very first VYBINO survey online. Participants complete the questionnaires using their own computer/laptop, and will fill out six online surveys over six months.
