The BLINK project<\/a> (Bilingual Literacy and Input Negotiate Knowledge: Tracing Heritage Language Bilingual Development) and the\u00a0LAVA research group<\/a> (Language Acquisition, Variation and Attrition) at UiT the Arctic University of Norway are pleased to announce the workshop Capturing and Quantifying Individual Differences in Bilingualism<\/em><\/strong>, to be held in Troms\u00f8 September 2-3, 2019. The purpose of the workshop is to bring together researchers from around the world who work on tracing and quantifying the underlying factors that contribute to the observed individual variation in bilingualism, with a specific focus on background questionnaires. All work pertaining to the explanation of the relationship between input, extra-linguistic factors and language development and ultimate attainment in bi\/multilingualism at any age is welcome. Given that the workshop will cover both empirical and methodological issues, we are especially interested in submissions that employ or discuss:<\/p>\n

\u2022 The development and use of background questionnaires in bilingualism research.
\n\u2022 Cross-sectional and\/or longitudinal methodology seeking to chart bilingual developmental trajectories over time.
\n\u2022 The role of input in bilingual language development and ultimate attainment.
\n\u2022 Empirical studies that seek to reveal a greater understanding of individual differences in language acquisition, processing, and\/or bilingual executive functions\/control.
\n\u2022 Methodological issues in heritage language research; e.g., what is and is not appropriate for empirical methodologies with (subgroups of) heritage speakers and why.
\n\u2022 Statistical modeling in the psycholinguistics of bilingualism.<\/p>\n

The deadline for submissions is April 15, 2019.\u00a0<\/strong>You may submit an abstract for consideration as a paper, poster or both. Please indicate in your submission if you would like to be considered as a paper or poster only; all others will be automatically considered for both. We accept poster submissions, especially from graduate students and postdocs, that present ongoing work, even at a well-developed (but not yet implemented) conceptual level. Abstract submissions must fit on one A4 page, written in Times New Roman script, 12 point font. A second, optional page can be used for references, charts\/tables, and examples of experimental methodology only. Abstracts will be peer-reviewed. We endeavor to inform authors of the outcome by May 22nd<\/sup>. A limited number of travel grants will be awarded to the highest rated abstracts with a PhD or Masters student as their first author. If you are interested, please send an email after submission to bilingualism2019@list.uit.no<\/a> indicating that you are eligible and would like to be considered for a graduate student travel bursary.<\/p>\n

A special issue of Applied Psycholinguistics<\/em><\/strong> will be published in connection with the workshop, including contributions by the keynote speakers as well as a selection of papers presented at the event.<\/p>\n
