About us

Our group is located at the Department of Chemistry at UiT – The Arctic University of Norway in Tromsø in the far north of Norway. As part of the MabCent-SFI (Centre for Research-based Innovation) program our main goal was to identify and develop enzymes for use in industrial and/or biotechnological applications. Genome sequences from cold-adapted marine bacteria and metagenome libraries that have been created from several cruises along the Norwegian coast and further north with the groups of islands of Svalbard form the genetic repository for selecting our enzyme gene targets. Our main research efforts have throughout the years been on characterizing cold-adapted DNA-modifying enzymes like DNA polymerases and nucleases. This research has been highly innovation focused and in close collaboration with biotechnological industry. We have established methods and equipment at the Department of Chemistry enabling us to perform ”in-house” detailed enzyme characterization and crystallization.
