The METHANICE (Methanotrophic communities in Ice) project aims to identify the role of methane-consuming bacteria (methanotrophs)<\/strong> in terrestrial seasonal icings <\/strong>that cover sub-permafrost methane-rich groundwater springs <\/strong>around Svalbard.<\/figure>\n
These findings will not only further our understanding of Arctic methane dynamics, but will also grant insight into the evolution of life in extreme cold environments and help prepare astrobiologists for upcoming missions investigating our solar system’s icy moons.<\/figure>\n
