Joanna Mossop is an Associate Professor at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. Her research explores different aspects of the law of the sea, including marine biodiversity, dispute settlement, maritime security, and resource management. Her book, The Continental Shelf beyond 200 Nautical Miles: Rights and Responsibilities (Oxford University Press, 2016) was the joint winner of the JF Northey Book Award. She has attended the three meetings of the Intergovernmental Conference negotiating a treaty for the conservation and sustainable use of marine biodiversity in areas beyond national jurisdiction. In 2019 the New Zealand government nominated her to the list of arbitrators and conciliators under Annexes V and VII of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
