The project studies the introduction of the oil and gas industry in the High North and the processes by which the new industry gains a foothold in the region. More specifically, the project addresses the following questions:
- What new challenges is the industry facing as it moves northwards?
- How does the region engage to promote oil and gas development?
- Which regional transformations do the petroleum activities bring about?
- What characterizes the interaction between the oil industry and the fishing industry, and how are potential conflicts resolved?
- In what ways are Norway and Russia establishing cross-border collaboration in the field of oil and gas?
- How are the current low oil prices, the sanctions policy, and climate considerations affecting the mode and rate of oil and gas development in the High North?
