At the Faculty of Science and Technology you can have up to 10 ECTS of non-scientific courses in your instruction component including the compulsory course in\u00a0Philosophy and Science and Ethics<\/a>.<\/p>\n

High North Academy<\/strong><\/a> arranges courses in transferable skills at UiT The Arctic University of Norway in the fields of Science Communication and Career development. Courses include Scientific writing (3 ECTS), Visualizing your science (3 ECTS), Coping with media (1 ECTS), Leadership skills (3 ECTS), Academic entrepreneurship (5 ECTS) and Funding your research (3 ECTS). The\u00a0website of High North Academy<\/a>\u00a0contains an overview over the courses and a suggestion which course to take in which year. The Department of Chemistry advises PhD fellows to participate in relevant courses of High North Academy.<\/p>\n

The university library<\/strong> arranges a 2-credit course\u00a0 “GEN-8001: Take control of your PhD journey: From (p)reflection to publishing<\/a>” about academic integrity and plagiarism, searching for literatur, Open Access publishing, managing research data and EndNote reference manager (optional). The university library also offers a range of courses about managing research data,\u00a0both on beginner’s level and intermediate level. All courses are offered in english and in norwegian. The courses are especially useful for those that are not yet familiar with the\u00a0Principles and guidelines for research data management at UiT.\u00a0<\/em>The university also has an open online course in deterring student plagiarism (english<\/a> | norwegian<\/a>). This course takes one to two hours to complete, can be taken whenever and whereever and includes a course certificate in the end. The course is useful for all students and employees, including PhD fellows. The university library also has an overview<\/a> over all courses they offer. The overview contains courses in english and courses in norwegian.<\/p>\n

The PhD school at the Department of Chemistry<\/strong> organises two annual courses: a writing course in late November or early December and the course Present your science<\/a> (2 ECTS) in spring. All PhD fellows at the Department of Chemistry are expected to present their PhD project at the annual\u00a0Department Day<\/a> and to participate in the writing course in autumn. In general, not more than three activities per year will be compulsory to attend for PhD fellows at the Department of Chemistry.\u00a0Note that the Department Day and writing course for PhD students will not be organised until physical meetings are possible again.<\/em><\/p>\n
