All PhD fellows who have been admitted to the PhD program at the Faculty of Science and Technology after June 22, 2018 will have a compulsory mid-term evaluation (midtveisevaluering)<\/em> of the PhD project. Faculty regulations about the mid-term evaluation can be found at uit.no\/phd (English<\/a> | Norwegian<\/a>).<\/p>\n

The goal of the midt-term evaluation is to evaluate the progress of the PhD project and to give the PhD fellow thorough feedback on the PhD project. The Department will appoint two evaluators. Evaluators will usually be employees at the department. One of the evaluators will if possible be from a related scientific field. PhD (co-)supervisors cannot be evaluators at the midt-term evaluation.<\/p>\n

The PhD fellow will send in an updated project plan that includes finished and planned course in the educational component, an updated risk analysis of the PhD project and a self-evaluation of the progress. This update should in principle be sent in before the start of the third year of the PhD project, but can be sent in later, for example due to longer periods of (sick) leave.<\/p>\n

The evaluation will consist of two parts:<\/p>\n

Part 1<\/strong> will consist of a presentation which is open to all. The presentation should give both the evaluators and the rest of the department an overview of the project. In this part the PhD student should at least present the aim and the relevance of the project and the methods to be used. Results and\/or challenges so far should also be presented. Optionally can progress and changes with respect to the original plan be presented. The presentation should last about 15 minutes, and there should be about 5 minutes for questions.<\/p>\n

Part 2<\/strong> will be a closed session, and only the PhD student, the supervisors and the committee members will be present. The evaluation should last about 45 min, and topic of the discussions will be the progress of the project and the revised project plan, and the status of the educational component of the PhD. There will also be a possibility for the PhD student to meet with the committee without the supervisors present after the initial discussions.<\/p>\n

Checklist for the PhD fellow<\/strong><\/p>\n

  1. One week before the evaluation, send Head of Administration<\/a> an updated project plan, including finished and planned courses in the educational component and an updated risk analysis of the project. For simplicity, mark completed tasks and milestones with green text, abandoned plans and milestones with red text, and new plans and milestones with blue text.<\/li>\n
  2. One week before the evaluation, send Head of Administration<\/a> the self-evaluation form<\/li>\n
  3. Prepare an oral presentation where you present your research question and method as well as why your research is important. Optionally, inform about changes or problems with respect to the original project plan, and evaluate the progress of your project and the educational component.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
