Hello, everybody. I am Shuang Neng, a student from China. I have completed a 6-week exchange program at The Arctic University of Norway. My senior Zhong Zhou, who was traveling together with me, also stayed in Norway for some time. We mainly carried out field exploration, sample collection, and database establishment. Some of the work was a little difficult, but it was all very interesting and I learned a lot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On August 9, we arrived in Troms\u00f8. When we first arrived on this island, we were full of curiosity about everything. The buildings here are quite different from what we saw in Beijing. We also witnessed the polar day phenomenon here. It was the first time we saw the sun stay in the sky all day, which shocked us all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kimberlite sampling<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

From August 11th to August 15th, we conducted field trips in Norway and Sweden. Two teachers led us and two other Norwegian students to visit LKAB that has the largest underground iron ore mine in the world. Field exploration is a window for geologists to explore the mysteries of the earth. We came to Kalix on the Baltic Sea coast to conduct field exploration and sampling of kimberlite. Kimberlite is of great significance to this research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the following period, we learned data retrieval and sample packaging preparing for our research project. In my spare time, I went to experience the local scenery, food, customs and culture of Troms\u00f8. Zhou tried a Chinese restaurant in Norway, and the dishes there are indeed very different from those in China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From September 10th to September 19th, under the leadership of Professor Sebastian, I followed a dozen UIT students to Alta, Norway for a field internship. This experience was amazing. We climbed the mountain to observe the outcroppings. I got to know many rocks that I had never seen before. We had lunch in the mountains and ate the blueberries that were everywhere… These make me marvel at the wonders of nature. I also made many good friends during this internship. Anniken took me to see the aurora. It was the first time I saw them with my own eyes. They were so beautiful and I was very excited. One night, we had a barbecue together. Even though it was a little cold, I felt warm being with everyone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This trip to Norway ended successfully. Special thanks to the teachers and classmates who helped us during this trip and made our trip so memorable and wonderful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
