Connecting researchers and innovators to exchange ideas, spark collaboration, and advance autonomous shipping through open discussion and shared research

A dedicated open-science forum bringing together academia, industry, and regulators to share the latest advances in Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS), including real-world applications and emerging technologies.

A platform fostering collaboration between engineers, economists, human factors experts, and policymakers to address key challenges in autonomy, including safety, governance, digitalization, and remote operations.

Forward-looking discussions on AI-driven systems, sensor fusion, ship–shore communication, and economic impact, supporting Europe’s leadership in safe and scalable autonomous maritime operations.
Exploring advances in autonomous vessel systems, AI integration, and next-generation maritime sensing and control technologies.
Examining how remote operators engage with autonomous systems and how interfaces, trust, and decision-making can be improved.
Focusing on risk, reliability, and operational frameworks required to ensure safe deployment of autonomous shipping systems
Discussing the economic impact, business models, and industry restructuring driven by autonomous maritime technologies.
Addressing evolving international rules, standards, and regulatory challenges for the certification and operation of MASS.
Following the successful organization of the 1st European Autonomous Ship Research Forum in 2024, we are pleased to announce the 2nd European Autonomous Ship Research Forum, hosted by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and UiT – The Arctic University of Norway. The forum will take place on 27–28 May 2026 in Oslo, Norway.
We invite contributions addressing the following themes:
AI-Driven maritime situational awareness and sensor fusion for autonomous maritime systems
Surface and subsea autonomy for safety and security applications
Cyber-physical systems and autonomous system architecture
Human-automation interaction and remote ship operations
Risk, resilience and cybersecurity in autonomous maritime operations
Regulatory frameworks for maritime autonomous surface ships (MASS)
Shipping economics for remote and autonomous vessel operations
