Concluding remarks

I am grateful for the opportunity to have participated in the pedagogy course. It has been an interesting experience that opened me to new ideas and tools. I also found it intellectually stimulating to discover the theoretical background and related literature around learning and teaching. On a more practical aspect, it has been useful to have the course spread over a couple of months as it does take time to grasp all the concepts and to make sense of them in a global context.

The heterogeneity among the course participants has helped to highlight the fact that despite having very different teaching backgrounds, we, teachers, can help each other improve our teaching. It has been instructive to share our successes and struggles and it did create a sense of community which helps moving forward.

It would be dishonest not to acknowledge that the course has also been a bit challenging for me by touching upon sensitive topics. It definitively did change my approach of teaching and it helped me realize that the key to a success lies in communicating about one’s teaching. It encourages others to take on new challenges and renew themselves.

In my upcoming journey as a teacher, I do hope that I will keep caring as much as I do now about the quality of my teaching and that I will always seek new ways of improving my skills as a teacher and supervisor. I will however remember to practice self-cafe in my endeavor of continual improvement as a teacher.
