Registrations of disturbances on the Telegraph in Alta 1882-83<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

During the 1st International Polar year in 1882-83, the Norwegian Meteorological Institute operated the Norwegian Polar Station in Bossekop close to Alta in Northern Norway. The expeditions to high latitudes during this year had a comprehensive and predetermined observation program to follow, that included astronomical, meteorological, geomagnetical and auroral observations. The head of the station Aksel S. Steen was an eager student of geomagnetism and allied phenomena and got an agreement with the local telegraph company to register the observed disturbances on the local telegraph line. This was then to be correlated with observations of Aurora and Geomagnetic variations as observed at the Polar Station.<\/p>\n
