I am a PhD student at TREC working on the project: Bone Morphogenetic Proteins: Novel Mediators of Atherothrombosis. Recently, I returned from a research visit at the University of Cincinnati, OH, USA, where I was working with our collaborators from the Division of Hematology\/Oncology.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The research visit was part of my project and I am really glad for the opportunity to work under the supervision of Prof. Vladimir Bogdanov. This was, and is, a fruitful collaboration. Working in a completely different environment is always stressful, but it turned out to be a very positive experience. By staying in a different lab I got the chance to see my project in a whole new perspective. I learned a lot of new techniques and methods that will not only be useful in my own lab work but also in other ongoing projects in the TREC lab. The eight months I worked there allowed me to finish my first paper as well as to get data and ideas for future projects. My coworkers at the Division of Hematology\/Oncology were all really nice, smart and helpful, and I enjoyed working with them. We were working in an open-plan workspace which made communication easy and natural.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/site.uit.no\/trec\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/204\/2015\/03\/Cincinnati_Tima.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-301 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/site.uit.no\/trec\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/204\/2015\/03\/Cincinnati_Tima-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Cincinnati_Tima\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a>I was lucky to spend several major holidays in the US. The Independence Day parade was quite an experience and the evening of 4<sup>th<\/sup> of July was marked with traditional barbeque and spectacular fireworks. On Thanksgiving I was invited to a traditional dinner with turkey and mashed potatoes.
