Last week 24 members of K.G. Jebsen TREC travelled to Toronto, Canada for the 2015 ISTH Congress <\/a>(International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis) . The 6-day event was intense and overwhelming, with oral presentations, symposia, and plenary sessions filling each day with the latest developments in both clinical medicine and basic science in the field of thrombosis. Over 7000 people from around the world participated in the conference.<\/p>\n

TREC had a strong presence at the congress, with the group having been selected to give 14 presentations on our latest research. Six of the eight prestigious Young Investigator Awards that were presented to Norwegian researchers at the ISTH Congress were awarded to members of TREC. Additionally, TREC had the opportunity to present 21 posters, several of which won awards for being within the top 20% of submitted abstracts. Professor John-Bjarne Hansen and Professor Bjarne \u00d8sterud were given the role of chairs in oral sessions at the conference as well.<\/p>\n

The days were packed with events and information, but the conference was also a good opportunity to meet with our collaborating partners around the world. The Bare Naked Ladies performed at the All-Congress Party on Wednesday night to celebrate the closing of this congregation of doctors and scientists, impressing the crowd with two new songs related to coagulation.<\/p>\n

TREC participated and dominated in events both within and outside of the ISTH Congress. As an athletic group, 6 members from TREC participated in the MEC Toronto Race merely hours after having arrived to the other side of the world, running races ranging from 5k to the half marathon.\u00a0 TRECxercise trainer Ina Isabella H\u00f8iland made us proud by winning the half marathon.<\/p>\n

The beautiful and bustling city of Toronto kept us busy after conference hours, offering plenty of exciting sight-seeing opportunities such as the CN Tower and the Ripley Aquarium. The scenic Niagara Falls was also a choice destination, and many members were able to take a quick trip.<\/p>\n

We return to Troms\u00f8 looking forward to next ISTH conference in Berlin in 2017.<\/p>\n
