Rainforest Foundation and the Forum for Development Cooperation of Indigenous Peoples welcomes the half-day seminar: Business and human rights of indigenous peoples: challenges and protection mechanisms.”

Today’s intensive hunt for resources leads to increased pressure on indigenous land, territories and way of life.

Indigenous people’s right to participate in decisions directly affecting their livelihoods are constantly challenged, in addition of increased violence against human rights defenders who speak for indigenous causes. What are the obligations of states and companies to protect the rights of indigenous peoples, under the UN guidance Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGP) and the OECD guidelines for multinational companies? How does Norway safeguard indigenous peoples’ human rights when it collides With Norwegian business interests? And what is the emphasis on indigenous rights in the government workplan of action to implement the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights?
