Spring 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">PhD course theme: SVF-8065 (<strong>VISUAL)&nbsp;NARRATIVES&nbsp;AND&nbsp;ANTHROPOLOGICAL&nbsp;KNOWLEDGE&nbsp;<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Character driven film and actor oriented anthropology<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><em>The course will explore visual and written narratives according to, Frampton\u2019s approach (\u201cFound in the Field\u201d (2007), and how this approach establishes a foundation for anthropological knowledge. <\/em><em>Different examples that cover how anthropologists relate to various stylistic and structural approaches to narrative, and how this relates to anthropological knowledge will be discussed. Why do filmmakers use a specific style to answer their own individual research questions and, equally; why do writers use a specific style to answer their own research questions? How does this narrative strategy succeed or fail? <\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><em>&nbsp;<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><em>The course will further explore character-driven narratives and how they link to actor oriented anthropology. Within this approach the focus on specific individuals becomes the access point for understanding broader socio-cultural systems. <\/em><em>The students will submit a narrative, a film or a written essay, based on their fieldwork, ahead of the course. During the course they will present a paper exploring anthropological knowledge that departs in approach from their submitted narrative work.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">This course is obligatory for all PhD students coming to Troms\u00f8<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">The cours on anthropological writing is organised in three parts<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>Part one<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Professor Paul Stoller give the two following lectures<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">Ethnographic Practices: From fieldwork to the Construction of Texts<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">How to tell a good story&#8211;evoking space\/place\/ writing dialogue and constructing character<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">The lectures are 20-21<sup>st<\/sup> of February, on Skype<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Info Paul Stoller: https:\/\/www.wcupa.edu\/sciences-mathematics\/anthropologySociology\/pStoller.aspx<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>Part two <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">After these classes will all of you have 4 weeks to write a paper. &nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">This mean that you will edit and write parallelly. &nbsp;(From the 20<sup>th<\/sup> of February to the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> of March will the editing rooms be closed for PhD Students) The papers are submitted the 6<sup>th<\/sup> of March.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Stoller will give individual and common feedback on the papers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>Part three <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Meeting in Troms\u00f8: The course will be 2-3 days depending on numbers of students<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">22<sup>nd<\/sup>, 23d and 24<sup>th<\/sup> April.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">The course starts with Paul Stoller giving his general comments on the student\u00b4s papers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Students with films will present them during the course.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>External lecturer will be Rogers Orock, University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000\">Rogers Orocks CV:<\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-2793-2081\">http:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-2793-2081<\/a><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000\">In addition will Prof Emirata Lisbet Holtedahl and Associate professor Trond Waage participate<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000\">&nbsp;Litterature:<\/span> <\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/bibsys-c.alma.exlibrisgroup.com\/leganto\/readinglist\/lists\/6225411020002205\">https:\/\/bibsys-c.alma.exlibrisgroup.com\/leganto\/readinglist\/lists\/6225411020002205<\/a><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000000\">Program will follow<\/span><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;
