The International Research Network Arts & Dementia (IRNAD) brings together scholars from all kind of academic disciplines working within the field of Arts and Dementia. The network was initiated in 2017 by the Artful Dementia Lab at UiT The Arctic University of Norway. It is open for scholars who are interested in developing interdisciplinary research projects within the field of Arts and Dementia.

The network aims:

  • to contribute substantially to the art and dementia research community through empirical engagement with arts interventions and theoretical engagement with existing theoretical frameworks
  • to conduct arts-based research beyond the deficit model and explore life with dementia as one of many ways of being in the world
  • to contribute to broadening understandings of dementia in new, non-normative and non-oppressive ways
