A genomic variation enabler in enterococci with similarity to SCCmec

Researchers from UiT – The Arctic University of Norway, Norwegian National Advisory Unit on Detection of Antimicrobial Resistance and University Hospital of North-Norway have published the article The Enterococcus Cassette Chromosome: A genomic variation enabler in enterococci in mSphere. Their identification of a novel genetic island with similar insertion locus and mobilisation genes as Staphylococcus Cassette Chromosome elements, SCCmec is important in order to understand more about how genetic content variation occurs in enterococci.
