Future anti-virulence target for infection treatment?

Researchers from UiT-The Arctic University of Norway, Norwegian National Advisory Unit on Detection of Antimicrobial Resistance – University Hospital of North-Norway and University Medical Center Utrecht identified a gene cluster, which includes genes encoding bacterial Toll/interleukin-1 receptor (TIR)-domain containing proteins (TirEs). The cluster was found to be unique to nosocomial strains and promoted bacterial proliferation in human blood, indicating that TirE may contribute to the pathogenesis of bacteremia.
