At the Faculty of Science and Technology, the instruction component must contain 3 to 6 credits covering philosophy of science and ethics. As for all PhD courses, the course needs to be approved in the educational component of each individual PhD fellow and registration is through Studentweb. The following course is the highly recommended course for students at the Faculty of Science and Technology:
Code | Name | ECTS | Scheduled |
SVF-8600 | Philosophy of science and ethics | 6 | every Spring |
An alternative qualifying course at the Faculty of Health Sciences is HEL-8040 “Theory of science, research ethics and research design”, which gives 7 credits of which only 6 can be used for PhD fellows at the Faculty of Science and Technology. The combination of PhD courses SVF-8038 “Research ethics” (3 ECTS) and SVF-8054 “Philosophy of Science” (7 ECTS) at the Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences and Education (in total 10 ECTS) is not advised for PhD fellows in Natural Sciences.
