Nowadays, a significant amount of teaching occurs over the internet. Also at UiT, several internet-based courses are offered. I am involved in teaching 2 courses that are partly taught over the internet.
Video lectures are a central element in internet-based teaching. Such videos can come in many forms, from ‘talking-heads’ to more animated versions. I have been involved in making a number of video lectures in the ‘talking-head’ format, which are very static (I do not move) and where the speaker is separated from the lecture slides, potentially leading to a split in the students attention. Such videos might be experienced as little motivational. Together with a colleague at Result (Trine Dørum) I have tried out to make a different type of video lecture, involving more dynamics.
Documentation about this project:
-
- Initial plan for this project (in Norwegian).
- Description of the project outcome (in Norwegian).
- Prezi lecture I made for the dynamic video lecture (in English)
- Result: Dynamic video lecture . The lecture contains a quiz question that force the students to answer before the video continues (this was a test to see if this technology could be implemented).
- Example of a related static video lecture I made in 2012 (all 7 video lectures I made, in Norwegian)
