Travel to Tromsø
Tromsø is a city in northern Norway known for the Northern Lights in winter and the midnight sun in summer. Depending on your starting point, you can reach Tromsø by plane, car, bus, train (combined with bus), or by sea. The easiest and fastest way is without doubt by plane and we recommend that you book your travel as soon as possible since march is still peak season for the northern light tourism.
Getting around in Tromsø
Tromsø has an excellent bus service, making travel around the city easy! Regular buses connect the airport with the city centre and main hotels, and several local routes go from the city centre to the conference venue.
We recommend that you download the Svipper app since it both offers tickets and an very handy trip planner that make travel from the city centre and the conference venue easy.
Transport to and from Tromsø Airport
To travel to and from Tromsø Airport Langnes you can take the airport express, citybuses or taxi/uber.
The airport express go between the airport and Tromsø city center. There are several stops and pick-up points throughout the city. See timetables for the airport express here.
City bus routes 24, 26, 40 and 42 go between the airport and Tromsø city center. Tickets can be purchased onboard the bus (by card), from ticket machines or with the Svipper app. We recommend that you download the app since it both offers tickets and an very handy trip planner that make travel from the city centre and the conference venue easy.
There is also an option to take a taxi or uber from the airport to the city centre. Taxi/uber can be booked in advance, but usually there will be taxies easy available outside the airport terminal.
Transport from City center to the conference venue
The conference will be at UiTs campus in Breivika. To get there from the city center you have several options:
Bus 34 – UiT – UNN
Bus 20 – Stakkevollan
Bus 21 – UiT – UNN
Routes from conference to city center:
Bus 20 – Kroken via sentrum
Bus 33 – Fagereng via sentrum
Accomodation
The hotels in Tromsø are often fully booked at this time of the year due to travellers wishing to experience the artic winter and see the northern lights. We therefore recommend everyone to be out early to book their stay.
We will soon publish booking codes for the hotels where we have reserved rooms but be advised that it might be a better option to book your stay through a travel agency, online booking sites or directly to the hotel instead.
