Ulrike Dietrich and Tobias Vonnahme presented their work on heterotrophic algae and EPS (“slime”) in the Arctic during the Polar Microbes Symposium near Helsinki.

The workshop was focussing on the use of omics and novel methods in the world of microbes in polar regions. Around 20 Scientists around the world came to present their work and discuss preliminary results, concepts, or stunning datasets to a small audience of experts and young scientists.

The methods discussed range from multiple omics approaches in a variety of polar habitats, but also modelling and bichemical research were discussed. In the end new collaborations for the use of big datasets were established, and ideas and experiences exchanged.
