While we all figure out how the physical, chemical and biological oceanography, let alone the system ecology of the Arctic Ocean is functioning, climate change is over us. Nowhere are the changes bigger than in the Arctic and our limited understanding make us less capable for the transformation challenge in front of us to sustain knowledge-based ecosystem and resource management of the Arctic Ocean. A “New Arctic” can clearly be detected at the horizon and while we try to decipher the “Old Arctic” we have to prepare for the future. The old paradigms, some of them faintly visible at present, will change and new ones will be needed for our understanding of the Arctic Ocean to come.
ArcticSIZE invited to a workshop entitled
The New Arctic Ocean and changing paradigms
The workshop took take place from Thursday November 14 to Monday November 18 in the city of Weimar, Germany. 14 participants (from Canada, USA, Scotland, Norway, Germany, Denmark, including 4 from ArcticSIZE, participated.
