Creative visioning is becoming an increasingly useful tool for exploring people’s perspectives and visions of the future. Last week, Marianne Midtgård and Laurien de Korte visited our partners in South Africa to host a visioning workshop with students at the Military Academy.
The aim of the workshop was to gain an understanding of how students perceive their own future and that of their country, as well as how much agency they feel they have in shaping that future.
Structured around four questions, the workshop brought out diverse visions of the future among the groups, ranging from resilient community utopias to AI dystopias.
The visit also included a productive meeting at Stellenbosch University’s main campus, hosted by the School for Data and Computational Science in conjunction with the School for Climate Studies, where we discussed opportunities for future collaboration.
The workshop will also be held in Northern Norway, giving us an opportunity to explore a north–south perspective on students’ visions of the future and their sense of agency.
