The conference will address themes including the formation, storage, cycling, transport, release and budgets of methane through the Arctic geo-, hydro-, cryo- and atmosphere since the onset of Northern Hemisphere glaciation and towards the future. The Conference will have a strong emphasis on integration of these themes, and we encourage all relevant contributions to the following topics, which will form the conference sessions:

Methane in the geosphere (Conveners: Cornelia M. Binde and Frances Cooke):
Subsurface thermogenic, (a-)biogenic and methane stores and sinks
Methane in the hydrosphere (Conveners: Marie Stetzler and Muhammed Fatih Sert):
Methane processes and budgets in marine and lacustrine settings

Methane in the cryosphere (Conveners: Monica Winsborrow and TBD):
Methane dynamics in ice sheets and permafrost
Methane in the atmosphere (Conveners: Marie Stetzler and Pavel Serov):
Methane source, sinks, and budget in the atmosphere
Microbial cycling of methane (Conveners: Alexandra Rouillard and Vincent Carrier):
The role of microbes in methane budgets

Past methane histories (Conveners: Jochen Knies, Giuliana Panieri, and Malcolm Hodgskiss):
Past methane processes and budgets as analogues for future climate scenarios

There will also be two shorter sessions during the conference with a focus on:

Science and Art (Conveners: Zeynep Sancak Sert and Freya Sykes)

Outreach and Education (Conveners: Giuliana Panieri, Cordian Riener and Johanne Sofie Lund)

Refreshments (2 drinks per person) and some tapas finger food will be served. The conference welcome packs can also be collected during this icebreaker.

Arctic Bubbles Pint of Science event – 14th September

On the evening of the 14th September, we have a very exciting event planned: Arctic Bubbles Pint of Science! This event is a collaboration between CAGE and Pint of Science (PoS). It will be a night filled with many exciting talks and stalls from early career researchers from CAGE regarding Arctic methane. Arctic Bubbles PoS will be held at Storgata Camping in the city centre, and is a free event (drinks and pizza can be purchased at the venue at your own expense).
